Supporting Arizona: Arizona Lottery's Commitment to Heat Relief Efforts

As we brace for another hot summer in our beautiful state, I want to highlight the Arizona Lottery's commitment to keeping our communities healthy, cool, and thriving. With Heat Awareness Week approaching from May 5th through 11th, it's essential that we all come together in support of heat relief efforts across Arizona.

We all know how intense the summer heat can get, and the risks of extreme heat are significant and can even be life-threatening. That's why the Arizona Lottery is proud to support the statewide heat relief initiatives launched by Governor Hobbs and Arizona's first Chief Heat Officer, Dr. Eugene Livar.

We recognize the pressing need to mitigate the adverse effects of extreme heat. Through ticket sales, the Arizona Lottery and its players are helping to support the health and well-being of Arizona communities across the state.

In the fiscal year 2023, proceeds from Arizona Lottery ticket sales were allocated to vital year-round programming that supports populations more vulnerable to heat-related illness, including children, people experiencing homelessness, and those lacking access to transportation. These programs included:

  • $7 million to Healthy Families: We understand the importance of safeguarding the health and well-being of Arizona's children, particularly those ages birth to 5. This funding supports programs that provide essential resources to families.

  • $1 million for Homeless and Transitional Services: Individuals experiencing homelessness are among the most vulnerable during Arizona's scorching summers. The Arizona Lottery's annual contribution aims to support organizations offering shelter, resources, and assistance to those in need.

  • $11.4 million for Public Transportation: Access to transportation is crucial for individuals to reach cooling centers and essential services during periods of extreme heat. By investing in local public transportation programs, the Arizona Lottery facilitates accessible, regional transport.

Heat Awareness Week reminds us of our collective responsibility to ensure the well-being of all Arizonans, particularly during the sweltering summer months. The Arizona Lottery is proud to contribute to heat relief efforts and stand in solidarity with communities across the state. We invite our players and all Arizonans to join us and the Hobbs Administration in staying safe this summer and helping out fellow residents in need.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our fellow Arizonans. Together, we can continue to work towards building a safer and more resilient Arizona for all.
